We at the United Methodist Communities understand that being a senior does not have to mean losing your independence. Often times loved ones have work and family commitments and we don’t want to burden them by constantly asking for help. Our United Methodist Communities HomeWorks in home senior care program empowers you by allowing you to take care of yourself affordably while still maintaining your freedom and independence.

In addition to drawing from our extensive experience and working relationships with most of the senior living communities throughout Northern New Jersey, the Amada senior housing team also helps families explore options that may make it easier to cover the cost of residential care. We guide clients through the application process and help them submit claims and manage benefits to make the most of resources such as veterans’ aid programs, long-term care insurance, and other non-traditional payment options. Our clients deserve the very best care, and we do all we can to ensure that they receive it.
New Jersey is one of the states at the forefront of providing assistance to elderly persons that are not eligible for Medicaid. There are five programs of great relevance to seniors: JACC, Statewide Respite Care, Alzheimer's Adult Day Care, the Senior Gold and PAAD programs, and Congregate Housing Services. Although not all of these programs provide financial assistance, they may offer services that can enable a senior and their family to save money in other areas, thereby allowing more of their resources to be put toward the cost of care.
The Northern New Jersey metropolitan area generally has the highest home healthcare expenses in the state of New Jersey, with prices ranging from $11 per hour up to $26 per hour and an average yearly cost of around $49,192. The lowest in-home care costs in New Jersey are in the Ocean City area, where they range from $18 to $21 per hour. Here, the median yearly cost runs about $42,900.

Assisted living communities provide help with basic activities of daily living; like bathing, dressing, feeding and assistance with transferring and mobility. Some states allow assisted living communities to offer medication reminders or assistance. Assisted living facilities differ from nursing homes in that they typically do not offer more complex medical assistance.

Perhaps the main reason to engage an elder care specialist is the safety of an older adult. Though many older adults reside with family caregivers, there are others who are alone in their homes. When a home care provider calls, anything that might be going wrong can be put to rights. Even if a family member is in the home and providing care, without a professional eye, that person might miss changes in the condition of the elderly patient.

In 1973, an amendment to the federal Older Americans Act (OAA) required states to separate their aging planning and service areas and to designate Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) to implement programs and services for older Americans at the local level. The local Area Agencies on Aging offices serve certain counties and implement the elder service programs within their geographic boundaries. The quickest way to find out what services a senior may qualify for and what senior programs are available is to contact the Area Agency on Aging office serving the county where the senior lives. A few states have websites which provide information for the entire state and other states provide a county lookup on their website to find the correct area office to contact for senior services.
