We begin with a no cost and no obligation visit with potential clients and family to discuss and evaluate the needs and concerns of each individual. The visit can be in home or at a facility. Together we create a customized home care plan centered on the family's desired goals. Once all concerns, wishes and questions have been addressed and the comfort level has been achieved; our New Jersey home care staff begins the matching process between client and caregiver.
Each family is able to completely customize their own BeClose system, choosing from a range of state-of-the-art products and devices and paying for nothing that is unnecessary. Some of the most popular BeClose products include medication monitors to let families know if a dose was missed, indoor and outdoor security cameras, automated door locks and thermostats, and even alerts to instantly notify families and nearby assistants of falls, intruders, or other potential emergencies. BeClose also compiles records of behavior and activity patterns, and can let families know when changes in routine may signal a need for more hands-on care. Families and Amada caregivers are able to receive real-time updates and frequent reports directly on their mobile phones through the revolutionary BeClose mobile app, so they can remain confident that their loved one is safe and thriving—whether they are across the street or across the globe.

Medicaid is an insurance program designed for low-income individuals and families. A distinction should be made between regular Medicaid (sometimes called State Plan) and Institutional Medicaid (also called Long Term Care Medicaid). Long Term Care Medicaid is more relevant to the elderly and this webpage. Upon creation, Long Term Care Medicaid was intended to pay for nursing home care, and limited personal care, for individuals who required it, but could not afford it. Over time, programs were added that allowed those who were eligible for nursing home care to receive that level of care outside of nursing homes. These programs are referred to as Medicaid Waivers, and in New Jersey, these programs fall under a Comprehensive Medicaid Waiver. Please note, in New Jersey, Medicaid for the elderly is also called FamilyCare Aged, Blind, Disabled (ABD) Programs.

New Jersey has a housing index of 126.60, making it one of the more expensive states to retire in the United States. Perhaps the main reason to engage an elder care specialist is the safety of an older adult. Though many older adults reside with family caregivers, there are others who are alone in their homes. When a home care provider calls, anything that might be going wrong can be put to rights. Even if a family member is in the home and providing care, without a professional eye, that person might miss changes in the condition of the elderly patient.
As a non-profit Methodist organization, United Methodist Communities seeks to be revenue neutral between costs charged to our residents, and the cost of actually providing 1st class care across all our communities. While the cost of living in our communities is at or below the cost of living in similar communities in each geography, the cost of providing care and fulfilling our lifetime commitments to residents no longer able to pay, escalates every year. In fact this shortfall reaches into the millions of dollars every year, and if not for the United Methodist Communities foundation and its charitable support, United Methodist Communities would have a staggering deficit that no amount of goodwill could bridge.

Assisted living communities provide help with basic activities of daily living; like bathing, dressing, feeding and assistance with transferring and mobility. Some states allow assisted living communities to offer medication reminders or assistance. Assisted living facilities differ from nursing homes in that they typically do not offer more complex medical assistance.

After Mom and Dad retired, they stayed so busy. When they weren't traveling, they were playing cards with friends, dining out with the neighbors, volunteering for some community group or church project. When Dad's health took a turn, Mom was determined to stay in the house, taking care of him herself, day and night, for over two years before he died. Now that he's gone, we've noticed she's not getting out much and I don't think she ever has a decent meal. She's too independent to come and live with Sis or me, and we just live too far away to help as much as we'd like to.
