New Jersey ranks as one of the more expensive states in the nation as far as the cost of assisted living. As of 2018, the national average is $3,670 / month, but in NJ, residents pay over $1,420 / month more, with the average cost being $5,070. However, state residents should take some comfort in the fact that the cost is not consistently high everywhere in the state. The less expensive areas include Ocean City, in and around Atlantic City, and Vineland-Millville-Bridgeton. In these areas the average cost is closer to $4,270 / month. Residents in the most expensive areas should be aware that they live in these areas, so that they might consider neighboring counties as a cost-saving measure. The Trenton area and almost all of Northern New Jersey has monthly cost averaging between $5,370 and $6,170. Caring for individuals with Alzheimer's can further increase the monthly cost of assisted living by as much as $1,270 / month.

Caregiver burnout is a real issue that too many families try to ignore for too long. One way to prevent and treat burnout is to use respite care services. These can come in a number of different forms. There are respite care programs that operate in assisted living facilities, others that operate more like an adult day care center, and still some that provide home care services.

The state's recently created Medicaid Managed Long Term Services and Supports (MLTSS), a managed care system, falls under the Comprehensive Medicaid Waiver. Under this system, there are no enrollment caps, meaning anyone who is eligible to receive services can do so. Via this program, supports for a variety of services are provided in the home, assisted living, an adult foster care home, or in adult day care. Benefits include home / vehicle modifications, meal delivery, personal emergency response systems, and personal assistance. Program participants are able to self-direct certain home-based supportive care, such as personal assistance and homemaker services. This means they are able to hire the individual of their liking, including some family members. The Global Options or GO Waiver was absorbed into this waiver in 2014.
I have been using Senior Home Care Services for years to meet my client's needs and I highly recommend them, putting my full faith in their staff and services. The care provided by Senior Home Care Services is excellent and they exhibit an expertise and good judgement that can only come from years of experience. As a local, family-owned company their office staff is quick to respond to client's needs and accessible 24-hours a day. I could not recommend them more highly. New Jersey is one of the states at the forefront of providing assistance to elderly persons that are not eligible for Medicaid. There are five programs of great relevance to seniors: JACC, Statewide Respite Care, Alzheimer's Adult Day Care, the Senior Gold and PAAD programs, and Congregate Housing Services. Although not all of these programs provide financial assistance, they may offer services that can enable a senior and their family to save money in other areas, thereby allowing more of their resources to be put toward the cost of care.

Assisted-living residences at United Methodist Communities have apartments that residents can make their own, along with a common dining room where meals are served, a nurse’s office where prescription drugs are professionally dispensed and activity rooms for socializing. The great advantage of United Methodist Communities assisted living is that you can ramp up the level of care as the resident needs it, adding services like help with dressing and bathing, or medication reminders. At our assisted living facilities, you only pay for the care that you receive. This philosophy can save families literally tens of thousands of dollars every year.

This is accomplished by producing qualified, principled home care provider organizations through an objective accreditation process and independent oversight.”
They sent us a truly excellent caregiver whom we now regard as a family member. I have complete trust in our caregiver. She provides a LOT more than just "care". She provides companionship, attention, friendship and I know she genuinely cares. That's all I could ever ask for. And the Service itself has provided excellent support and has accommodated on many important matters. They truly "care" as well. Trust me, this sort caring is what you want to look for when seeking a care provider.

I grew my business to function in the same high caliber fashion that I first observed and admired in Griswold Home Care. I work hard to support my community as both a home care provider and an expert in the elder care industry. I am active in my church and serve as a knowledgeable resource to various church volunteer programs and township social service programs.
