For those requiring advanced medical care for the short or long term, full service nursing care is provided at all UMC full service communities. It is important to note that at United Methodist Communities we consider that quality of life is still important to our most frail residents, and individual attention must extend beyond the medical meet the dictates of our deeper philosophy, that of “Abundant Life”.
Navigating seemingly endless phone menus and waiting through long hold times can be especially frustrating for our clients when all they want to do is secure benefits to help with senior care. We make use of our extensive network of contacts with LTCi carriers and administrators to directly advocate for our clients over the phone, saving them time and sparing them headaches.

Other common services include companion and personal care. Companion care helps combat feelings of loneliness and isolation and assists your elderly loved one with simple tasks of living, such as housekeeping, meal preparation, and transportation. Personal care, on the other hand, offers more sensitive care items related to hygiene such as bathing and using the restroom.
I could not be happier with my decision to join the home care industry. By making an affordable, quality home care service available to my community, I am able to improve the quality of life for so many senior citizens. What’s ever more rewarding is speaking to satisfied family members who are both pleased with Mom or Dad’s care and relieved by their peace of mind, which our care services have restored.

New Jersey ranks as one of the more expensive states in the nation as far as the cost of assisted living. As of 2018, the national average is $3,670 / month, but in NJ, residents pay over $1,420 / month more, with the average cost being $5,070. However, state residents should take some comfort in the fact that the cost is not consistently high everywhere in the state. The less expensive areas include Ocean City, in and around Atlantic City, and Vineland-Millville-Bridgeton. In these areas the average cost is closer to $4,270 / month. Residents in the most expensive areas should be aware that they live in these areas, so that they might consider neighboring counties as a cost-saving measure. The Trenton area and almost all of Northern New Jersey has monthly cost averaging between $5,370 and $6,170. Caring for individuals with Alzheimer's can further increase the monthly cost of assisted living by as much as $1,270 / month.

When considering a senior living community, it is important that our clients and their loved ones honestly assess the level of care they will require. For individuals who anticipate the need for complex medical services, a nursing home may be the best place to help them stay safe and comfortable. However, some of our senior clients just want to simplify their lives and receive assistance with some basic activities of daily living, and for such individuals an assisted living community may be a better fit.
Determining the best elder care option for yourself or your aging loved one largely depends on medical and emotional needs, lifestyle preferences, location preferences and available resources to cover cost of care.If you are considering elder care options in New Jersey or if you are considering becoming a primary caregiver, take some time to consider the best option for both yourself and your loved one.

We at the United Methodist Communities understand that being a senior does not have to mean losing your independence. Often times loved ones have work and family commitments and we don’t want to burden them by constantly asking for help. Our United Methodist Communities HomeWorks in home senior care program empowers you by allowing you to take care of yourself affordably while still maintaining your freedom and independence.

Perhaps the main reason to engage an elder care specialist is the safety of an older adult. Though many older adults reside with family caregivers, there are others who are alone in their homes. When a home care provider calls, anything that might be going wrong can be put to rights. Even if a family member is in the home and providing care, without a professional eye, that person might miss changes in the condition of the elderly patient.

As we say in the Camden County office, home care has never been easier than with Griswold Home Care. However, our job wasn’t easy! Using tools such as the “CareAssure Screening System” and “QuickCare Placement” we were able to get the best caregivers to our clients even on short notice. We understood the stress and fears our clients faced when they were told they needed someone to help out with senior care or they couldn’t remain in their home.

An applicant is also permitted countable resources up to $2,000. Note, one’s primary home, up to an equity value of $858,000, given the applicant or their spouse lives in it, is considered exempt. In addition, the applicant’s vehicle is not considered a "countable" asset, provided it is in use by the applicant. Being over the asset limit does not automatically disqualify one from Medicaid. However, one has to proceed with caution, as simply giving away assets or selling them for less than they are worth can result in a period of Medicaid ineligibility. This is because New Jersey has a 5-year look-back period (from the date of Medicaid application) where all asset transfers are considered. If one has gifted assets or sold them cheaply, there will be a period of time that one cannot receive Medicaid benefits. However, there are ways one can spend down excess resources without violating the look-back period. One can pay off debts, such as their mortgage, or make home modifications that increase the safety and accessibility of their home. Examples include remodeling a bathroom to make it wheelchair accessible, adding a chair lift, and installing wheelchair ramps.

I explored several business opportunities before deciding to open my Griswold Home Care office in Hillsborough. It was the Griswold family’s sincere mission to provide simple, affordable, high quality care that drew me in. I fondly remember leaving my meeting with the Griswold family, wondering, will this esteemed company award me a franchise– not the other way around.
New Jersey also has plenty of assisted living facilities throughout the state to provide seniors with more assistance with their day to day tasks. Residents receive personal care and health services for an average monthly cost of $5,811. Joe and Maria knew from experience what the senior care community needed and worked fast to build a team of professional caregivers and staff who lived with the same passion of providing home care for the ill and elderly.

My name is Stephan Rymal and I have been the Director of the Burlington County Office of Griswold Home Care since 1997. My Burlington County roots date back to my youth, when I visited my uncles’ farms on Route 70 past Olga’s Diner and the Route 73 circle. I still remember swimming in the cedar ponds in the summer and ice skating on them in the winter. My cousins and I would walk through the fields eating fresh Jersey tomatoes with their sweet juices dripping down our faces during the day and steam Jersey corn in their husks on the grill for dinner.

"Last year, I was looking for assistance for my mom, who suffers from dementia. In an effort to keep my mom's mind stimulated and her body active, I had been researching senior caregiving resources online. My interest was to find a local woman who would understand my mom's situation and act as a companion to her in my absence. Thankfully, upon locating the site, www.synergyhomecare.com, I called and spoke with Rona Fitzgerald, Senior Care Manager and Casey Holstein, the Owner of the company. After hearing how they provide top quality eldercare and Alzheimer's Disease assistance, I was reassured that SYNERGY would be able to fill the void in my mom's life, without tying my family up in a long-term caregiver contract. The company specializes in providing a friendly, helping hand around the house, from basic housekeeping and companionship to personal or memory care services and each of their caregivers is subject to an extensive screening process. Once we were paired with a successful match for my mom, I met with both Rona and the caregiver, Filomena Mora at my mom's house in Roseland in Nov. 2009. Filomena was equipped with a long list of positive references and has turned out to be an incredible asset to my mom. She is friendly, conscientious and has great passion for her work. I feel blessed that we managed to secure someone who has a warm heart and a gentle hand, as my mother trusts her and it means the world to me and my family. If you are struggling to find quality caregivers, I recommend that you give the SYNERGY team a call as they have always been trustworthy and reliable and responsive to our needs."

When the war ended, Mom moved to New Hanover, where she worked at Fort Dix and finally agreed to a dinner date with a handsome airman on base—Dad. They bought a stylish rancher in the suburbs. Of course Dad thought she should stay home, cook and clean, but he didn't know the force he was reckoning with. She fought to keep her career, continuing to work part time, even after we girls came into the picture.
